Semi-permanent pleural drainage catheter designed for individual, outpatient use. The catheter is designed for patients with recurrent pleural effusions.
The ON-Q pain catheter is used for a variety of different surgeries for post-operative pain control. In our division, we use it as a paravertebral pain catheter in place of an epidural pain catheter as an adjunct for post-operative pain control.
This procedure involves mediastinal lymph node sampling with use of an Olympus EBUS bronchoscope. At OHSU, with our service, the procedure is done by the thoracic surgery team (or the pulmonary medicine team, in a separate environment) after the patient has received general anesthesia and is orally intubated. Inpatient or outpatient procedure.
