Summary:

The Advanced Imaging Research Center (AIRC) at Oregon Health & Sciences University specializes in generating novel Magnetic Resonance (MR) techniques and technologies for the advancement of biomedical research.

The AIRC at OHSU has as its basic mission the advancement of medical imaging. With this charge it has become a center for cutting-edge research in imaging science. It is a research facility independent of existing departments at OHSU.

  • Bruker 12T MRI instrument ( MRI Scanner )

    "The Bruker 12T instrument is located in the Biomedical Research Building. The 11.75 Tesla (T) horizontal magnet has a clear bore diameter of 31 cm and the ID of the large gradient set is 20 cm. Higher gradient strengths and faster slew rates are available from a gradient insert that has an 9 cm ID. The RF transmitter unit contains two broadband frequency synthesizers and two digital RF transmitters capable of producing 180-600 MHz and 6‑365 MHz pulses, respectively, with each amplifier capable of ≥1 kW peak power. This instrument is equipped with a Resonance Research, Inc high-bandwidth shim power supply for demanding quantitative imaging and spectroscopy studies.

  • Siemens 3T Trio ( MRI Scanner )

    "The Siemens 3T Trio instrument is located on the campus of the Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC; 10 miles west of OHSU's main Marquam Hill campus) in a dedicated 2500 ft2 building that includes animal preparation areas and offices. The radio frequency (RF) transmitter unit contains one 35 kW narrowband (1H) RF transmitter and one 8 kW broadband RF transmitter capable of producing 20‑128 MHz. The instrument is equipped with a SONATA gradient coil set and a CASCADE gradient amplifier (2000V/500A on all three axes). Together they are capable of producing field gradients of ≥40 mT/m, with a slew rate of ≥200 T/(m*s), on all axes.

  • Siemens MAGNETOM 7T ( MRI Scanner )

    "The Siemens MAGNETOM 7T instrument is located in the Biomedical Research Building. The RF transmitter unit contains two independent digital RF transmitter channels, each capable of producing pulses with fully digital 1 MHz bandwidth, 32 bit frequency resolution, ≥16 bit phase resolution, and ≤50 ns time resolution. Eight solid-state RF power amplifiers are included, each capable of producing ≥1 kW over 270-305 MHz. If combined into one channel, these can produce ≥7 kW. This configuration also supports B1 shimming when transmit phases and amplitudes are controlled independently and delivered to the phased array head coil. A second RF amplifier is broadband capable (40-305 MHz) with a single 7 kW output. The AVANTO gradient coil set (2000V/625A) is capable of producing field gradients of ≥45 mT/m, with high slew rates ≥200 T/(m*s).

    "Description: The Mock Scanner (0T Room) is equipped with audiovisual stimulus presentation equipment designed to prepare functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) research study participants prior to entering the MRI Instrument suite. The Mock Scanner is also useful to help acclimate subjects to the enclosed space inside an MR Instrument.

    "STORAGE
    Data acquired on instruments at the AIRC are archived nightly to two redundant storage servers. Principal Investigators are responsible for the primary archive of data acquired at the AIRC as no disaster recovery mechanism is provided. Data left on the MR Instrument consoles will be removed regularly.

    RETRIEVAL
    Acquired data is communicated over the network using the DICOM protocol. Users retrieve their data from the AIRC DICOM servers using a DICOM client application. It may be possible for users with their own DICOM server to have data automatically routed."
